No snow accumulation to report here on LBI; actually not much of a “storm” at all actually.

Today’s precipitation was mostly rain with snow mixed in on occasion – but it didn’t really stick.

High tide this morning brought some bay flooding in parts of the Island. Fortunately no damage to homes or businesses has been reported anywhere on LBI.

Flooding was mostly restricted to a four hour window around high tide with the Island high and dry throughout most of the day. High tide was 6:18am at the Causeway Bridge and 4:49am at the Beach Haven Coast Guard Station. High tide returns at 6:53pm at the Causeway Bridge and 5:24pm at the Beach Haven Coast Guard Station.

March 6 – “Winter Storm Saturn”

Well, The Weather Channel is calling this “Winter Storm Saturn”. Here’s the latest info on LBI.

There is a voluntary evacuation for oceanfront home ONLY in parts of Brant Beach, Brighton Beach and Holgate. This is only VOLUNTARY and limited to OCEAN FRONT HOMES ONLY.

As of this post (5:30pm) electricity is still on for 99% of LBI and there has been no significant flooding on the ocean or the bay side.

A Coastal Flood Warning does remain in effect with high tide on the ocean at 3:20am and 6:18 on the bay (at the bridge).

Yet another winter storm is on the way. This one could bring significant flooding Wednesday, March 6th and Thursday, March 7th.

The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Watch for all of Long Beach Island in effect from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service predicts the high tides to be seven feet above mean lower low water for both Atlantic City and Seaside Heights (they do not forecast specifically for LBI).

For comparison purposes, here is some historic data for Atlantic City:
HIGHEST EVER RECORDED – December 11, 1992 – 13.94 feet
SUPERSTORM SANDY – October 29, 2012 – 13.72 feet
1962 ‘NOR EASTER – March 6, 1962 – 13.40 feet
HIGHEST POST-SANDY – December 21, 2012 – 11.58 feet.

It’s been over 4 months since Superstorm Sandy struck the LBI region and while life is back to normal for most of the island, there is one part still significantly damaged – Holgate.

In 1943 the USS Murphy was literally cut in half 71 nautical miles true east of Surf City.  This memorial stands today in Surf City’s Veteran’s Memorial Park.

Well, looks like the “blizzard” was a “bust” here on LBI. The National Weather Service reports 4 inches of snow in Surf City and 3 inches of snow in Manahawkin.

Flooding was also minimal at this morning’s high tide.

The bay was high but did not over-top the
bulkhead at the end of Central Avenue, near
19th Street in Ship Bottom.

By noon most of the snow had melted
at the Ship Bottom Volunteer Fire Company.

There was still a little bit of flooding in the usual
low lying places such as the intersection of
West 25th Street & Central Avenue in Ship Bottom.

However, this is what most of LBI looked like today.
High and dry at the intersection of W. 20th Street
and Long Beach Boulevard in Ship Bottom.

Even the oceanfront was largely unaffected.
There was no dune erosion visible on East 20th Street
in Ship Bottom today.
