Do you hear that noise? DON’T PANIC!

On May 23, 2013 at 9:30a & 2:30p Exelon will be testing the 42 new outdoor warning sirens for Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station for 3 minutes in duration.

Also, on May 29, 2013 Exelon will be conducting multiple full volume 3 min siren soundings beginning at 9am.

This new state-of-the-art siren system incorporates battery backup systems and upgraded communications systems. The 42 outdoor sirens are located within a 10 mile radius of the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station which is located in the mainland municipality of Lacey Township. This 10 mile radius includes the following towns on Long Beach Island: Barnegat Light, High Bar Harbor, Loveladies, Harvey Cedars and North Beach.

The inaugural “Get LBI Running 5K Run/Walk” was held today in Surf City. Proceeds from the run benefit the Surf City Volunteer Fire Department & EMS.

At this time (8:20pm) island fire departments are responding to a working structure fire in the vicinity of Centre Street & Delaware Avenue in Beach Haven. Updates to follow…

(8:37pm) reports that the fire has been “knocked down”.
(8:41pm) reports that the fire has been “knocked down overall”.
(8:46pm) Atlantic City Electric has responded to the scene.
(8:48pm) Stafford Twp. fire units have been released from the scene.
(8:56pm) Gas company on the scene with all utilities secured.

Today was a lazy, hazy day on LBI.
The morning started off with thunderstorms which moved out of the area by 1pm. The afternoon ended up being partly sunny and temperatures reached close to the 70 degree mark before dark clouds began rolling in around 4pm.
