Do you hear that noise? DON’T PANIC!

On May 23, 2013 at 9:30a & 2:30p Exelon will be testing the 42 new outdoor warning sirens for Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station for 3 minutes in duration.

Also, on May 29, 2013 Exelon will be conducting multiple full volume 3 min siren soundings beginning at 9am.

This new state-of-the-art siren system incorporates battery backup systems and upgraded communications systems. The 42 outdoor sirens are located within a 10 mile radius of the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station which is located in the mainland municipality of Lacey Township. This 10 mile radius includes the following towns on Long Beach Island: Barnegat Light, High Bar Harbor, Loveladies, Harvey Cedars and North Beach.

Beautiful Beach Day!

It was a beautiful day today in Barnegat Light.

Today’s feature is about Barnegat Light and the Barnegat Lighthouse.

But first I thought it prudent to share an often over-looked sign located just inside of Barnegat Lighthouse State Park:

The portions of Long Beach Island that had a strong dune system (Surf City, Harvey Cedars, Barnegat Light, etc.) suffered considerably less damage from Post-Tropical Cyclone Sandy compared to areas with only a minimal dune system (Brant Beach, North Beach, Holgate, etc.).

While an iconic symbol of the Jersey Shore, this is NOT the first “Barnegat Lighthouse”.  In fact, the first “Barnegat Lighthouse” collapsed into the inlet some time in 1857.  The current lighthouse wasn’t lit until January 1, 1859.

A beautiful day at the shore weather it was to collect shells, get some sun or go wind surfing.  High temps around 75 with mostly sunny skies and winds 10 to 20 mph.
